Getah untuk Pribumi programme is one of MRB’s initiatives to improve national productivity to 2,000 kg/ha/year which is in line with NKEA. The objectives are:
Three Orang Asli settlements covering an area of 64.6 hectares with 94 participants are involved in GUP Perak. The selected villages are Kg Sg Pelantok (60 participants), Kg Pisang (30 participants) and Kg Chenkei (4 participants). Participants are supplied with high yielding clones such as RRIM 2002, RRIM 3001 and PB 350.
As at November, land clearing process has been completed. All rubber seedlings were distributed according to locations. About 22,200 rubber seedlings has been distributed for participants Kg Sg Pelantok according to the recommended clones; PB 350 (13,320), RRIM 2002 (6,660) and RRIM 3001 (2,220) and 3,000 rubber seedling to participants Kg Pisang. Distributions of rubber seedlings to participants of Kg Chengkei will start after all rubber seedlings were distributed in Kg Pisang.
In Kg Sg Pelantok, about 60% of the area were planted and will be completed in December 2012.
As of September, about 80% of the area has been cleared and 50% of the field lining and holing area were completed. About 6,000 PB 350 clone seedlings were distributed to participants of Kg Sg Pelantok. Three thousand seedlings will be distributed every week until completed. Planting will start after training on planting in October 2012 is conducted.
As at July 2012, about 70% of the field have been cleared and currently receiving training on lining and holing as recommended by MRB. Activities consist of terracing and application of weedicide is being conducted. Planting is expected to start in early or end of September 2012.
It is reported that all participants have carried out the control pruning and weed control activities at their holdings in GUP Perak. Both the activities are monitored from time to time by the supervisor of the project. It is estimated that fertilization will be done in February 2014. Girth census for Kg. Pisang, Kg. Chengkei and Kg. Sg. Perah is scheduled to commence in February and April 2014.
Control of pests like wild boar, elephants and termites is being carried out based on the type of the attack.
An area of 78.54 hectare has been complete planted in the GUP Perak. At the first phase of mortality census the plant casualties was 12.8 per cent. Replacements of dead and damaged plants are still going on in order to maintain a density of 500 plants per hectare. As reported, high casualties of rubber plants were during storing at the compound of the participant’s home (transit base) and after planting in the holding. It was reported to date that a density of surviving plants at 501 per hectare at the holding.
An area of 75.54 hectares of land was cleared and 67.54 hectares were planted with rubber. Weed control is actively carried out and manuring will be implemented beginning of June 2013. Corrective pruning is on-going at all three villages except Kg. Sg. Perah.
Guidance on pest and disease control with participants of Kg. Sg.Pelantok were being carried out. Pesticides of trade name Marshall 5G were given to the participant concerned.
As of March, an area of 53 hectares has been planted with rubber seedlings. No access road to the holdings causes planting progress to delay.
En Ali Jaafar, En Siron and En Hamadi reported that wild elephants have entered their holdings in Kg. Sg. Pelantok. The wild elephant has ruined half the planted rubber trees. As for the time being, the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) do not allow the villagers to enter the area.
GUP meeting on February 14 2013 has agreed to incorporate the Orang Asli seedling aid project (One Off) Kg.Sg.Perah into GUP Project involving 14 participants and a total area of 14 hectare. As of March, clearing process are still in progress.
As of January, 64.6 hectares of land has been cleared and 46.5 hectares were planted with rubber seedlings. It was estimated that 3% of the participant’s holdings has been attacked by wild boar. However, measures to prevent the attack have been made.
A landslide occurred again in Kampung Chengkei which destroyed nearly half of a participant’s holdings. The Tok Batin and the participant affected did not allow the supervisor to go to the farm to estimate the loss of trees fearing yet another landslide at the site.
Wild elephant attacks at a participant’s farm in Kampung Sungai Pelandok destroyed more than 200 rubber plants, agricultural input as well as other cash crops. On 31st December 2014 these elephants were captured by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Jabatan Perhilitan).
As of September, the survey is being carried out throughout the participant’s holdings. Maintenance was also done according to schedule. White root disease was detected in several lots and prevention and recovery actions by using the Tilt fungicide were being carried out to all affected participants.
Two participants from Kampung Sg Perah had failed to give their commitment to the GUP project whilst they were being removed from the participant’s list and it was agreed in the meeting with the management.
As of June, the trees growth are in good condition. Weed control and manuring activities was done as planned. Advice were given to participants' who has not clean their holdings due to other works done by them. Girth measurement is still ongoing in Kg Sg Perah, kg Pisang and Kg Chengkei.
Root diseases were detected in participants' lot in Kg Sg Pelantok. However, prevention and recovery action was taken. Tutoring of root disease control has also been given to the participants.
Currently, girth measurement activities are still actively on-going at Kg. Pisang and Kg. Chengkei. Surveying of mortality rate is also been carried out to make sure all of the dead trees to be replaced immediately to maintain trees per hectare density.
Attacks from Wild elephants were spotted happening again on 18 – 20 March 2014 at Kg. Sg. Pelantok, which brought up to 60 trees damaged at several of participants’ farms including Itam Miah Bt. Itam seman, Majid bin Busu and Jaafar Ngah.
Maintenance and training session to the participants is still on-going according as scheduled. Girth measurements are still on-going starting from 14 December 2015 until end of January 2016.
This time, the survey involves simple trees at 20 holdings in Kg Sg Pelantok, 9 in Kg Pisang and 1 holding at Kg Chengkei. The girth measurement of the trees in GUP Kg Sg Pelantok for the trees average of 24 months is 18.2 cm, 11.1cm at GUP Kg Pisang at and the trees aged 12 months at GUP Kg Chengkei is 8.99cm.
It was reported that root diseases has first been detected at several lots in Kg Sg Perah. Continuous guidance and the supply for fungicide will be made to the participants.
It was reported that up till September, maintenance work have been carried out according to schedule. It was reported that the attack from wild boar and elephant is still happening and there are no solution to overcome this problem. A total of 36 trees were reported have been destroyed by elephants and it involves three holdings. Besides that, a total of 111 participants in 15 fruit orchards were damaged by the storm.
In Sg Perah, census of measure the circumference was made in 6 selected holdings at the age of 24 months. Average girth is 16.40cm and 2 holdings has reached the girth that exceed 18cm.
As of June, it was reported that all field maintenance was done according to schedule. It is reported that the tree has been destroyed by wild boar. However control measure has been taken immediately. Kg Pelantok also reported that elephant’s attack had destroyed planted tree and action has been made by Perhilitan to solve this problem.
Root disease had been detected in several participants’ lots but not in Kg Sg Perah. However, preventive measures have been made by participants.
As of March, root disease control activities were being carried out by the participants themselves. Pest control chemical (Dursban) and disease control chemical (Tilt) were distributed to participants that had been affected by RMT Chairperson. In addition, training and guidance on pests and diseases control were also being carried out.
It was reported that, the maintenance work of the holdings were carried out according to schedule and the training sessions were conducted each month according to the planting phase. The widespread of Root disease and termite attacked has increase in the area at Kg Sg Pelantok and Kg Pisang. Preventive measures have been made to prevent such attack to occur in the future and guidance and training to control the attacks have been conducted to the participants.
Maintenance and monitoring activities were conducted as planned. Guidance and training were also given according to the planting phases or when needed. It was reported that attacks of root diseases as well as from termites, wild boars and elephants is one of the major problem in the area. However, preventive measures have been carried out to overcome these problems.
Apart from that, girth census have also been conducted in the area with average circumference of 16.4 cm.
