Getah untuk Pribumi programme is one of MRB’s initiatives to improve national productivity to 2,000 kg/ha/year which is in line with NKEA. The objectives are:
Twenty-two participants are involved in GUP Melaka covering an area of 17.2 hectares in Kampung Bukit Payong. Participants are supplied with high yielding clones such as RRIM 3001, RRIM 2025 and PB 350.
As of November, a total of 18 lots have been cleared involving 13.2 hectares in hilly area and 1.9 hectares in flat area. Land clearing activities has stopped due to rainy season and will be continued in early December 2012.
About 1,996 rubber seedlings have been distributed and planted individually by participants. List of participants and planting status is as below.
Land clearing has been done by contractor start on 20 September 2012. As of September, a total of three lots with an area of 1.9 hectares (6%) involved of three participants have been cleared cleaned.
As at July 2012, the current activity is still in issuing quotation for land clearing and supply of rubber seeds.
In December girth census was carried out at Zarina bt Bujen’s holding. Agricultural inputs were also being distributed to all participants of GUP Melaka.
An area of 17.2 hectare has been planted completely in GUP Melaka and the first phase of mortality rate census was also done. The mortality rate was 14% mostly due to wild boar attacks and up to date, replacement is still ongoing to maintain the density of 500 and 700 plants per hectare for hilly and flat terrain respectively. On average, the number of surviving rubber plants was recorded as 613 trees per hectare.
The whole area was cleared and planted with rubber plants. Advice and guidance on weeding, manuring and pruning are actively being carried out at every participant’s lot. However, field maintenance and observation to participants holding was quite difficult to be carried out due to the roads that were damaged by erosion caused by rain.
Land clearing and planting have completed. The good growth of rubber trees reported in six lots planted in lot Nur Isjemie bin Ismail, Zarina binti Bujen, Emran bin Manja, Maria binti Zainudin, Nuzai bin Zainudin and Noni bin Apoi with average height of 1 metre. As of March, a total 52 jar weedicide has been distributed to the participants.
As of March, field maintainance are completed in several participants’ holdings as shown below.
As of January, land clearing was done in 18 lots covering an area of 15.1 hectares, involving 18 participants. However, all activities has to be stopped due to rainy season and land slides. It is expected to resume by early February.
A total of 5,068 rubber seedlings were distributed to 13 participants and planting activities are in progress. The distribution of seedlings and land development are as below:
Maintenance work was done according to schedule. The girth measurement for the first year was done and the average girth measurement is 7.4cm.
As of June, trees’ growth was reported to be good. Weed control and manuring activities were carried out according to plan.
Most participants’ lots are located at the top of hills. This condition makes it difficult for participants to bring fertilizers, pesticides and seeds embroidery in large quantities at one time to their smallholdings. In addition, participants depend on the rain only for water supply to be used in weed control. Consequently, the supply of plastic bins and zinc for storing water was initiated to facilitate the storage of water for weed control activities.
Maintenance activities were actively executed on March 2014. Fertilisation, weeds' control and controlled pruning were implemented according to the timeline as planned.
Reporting that trees' growth is in good condition and the average girth measurement for 22 farms was 7.6 cm. Branch pruning and field maintenance training had been done to the participants by Head of GUP Project.
The girth measure for the second year was done at 9 of the participants’ holdings with an average diameter of 15.5cm. Maintenance and guidance sessions to the participants will be carried out according as scheduled.
It was reported that up until September, maintenance work was carried out according as scheduled. Census diameter census was conducted in 9 holdings and an average reading of circumference is 15.5 cm.
As of June, it was reported that all field maintenance was done according to schedule.
As of March, weed control and manuring activities were implemented according to our recommendation and time plan.
It was reported that, the maintenance work of the holdings were carried out according to schedule and the training sessions were conducted each month according to the planting phase. GUP Melaka has been proposed as one of the locations for the contruction of GUP “Rubberised Road”.
