Introduction

Department of Standards Malaysia (DSM) is the national body empowered to develop Malaysian Standards, SIRIM Berhad is managing the standards development work for DSM. MRB has been appointed by SIRIM as a SWO (Standards Writing Organisation) for rubber and rubber products since 1996. As a SWO, the MRB is responsible to develop draft Malaysian Standards (MS) for rubber and rubber products.

The development of Malaysian Standard (MS) involves deliberation at meeting of MRB Standard Technical Committee. The agreement at the meeting is based on consensus views to ensure the standard published are acceptable to all interested parties. The draft standard will go through a process of public comment, vetting and subsequently approval by SIRIM Industrial Standard Committee (ISC N) prior to publication.

Scope

Develop standards for rubber and rubber products.

Objectives

To enhance and improve quality standards of rubber and rubber products through standards and certification.

• Provides a forum for interaction between industry, government, NGO’s, industry associations and consumer
• Gains recognition by industry and international organisation
• Promotes the use of practical and useful standards
• Safe guard the interest of Malaysian Rubber industry and country
• Be at the forefront on standard and quality of rubber and rubber products

Implementation

MRB Standards Technical Committee

This committee consists of members representing the industry, government organisations, NGO’s, universities and consumers.

Functions:

• To deliberate on standards prepared by the technical committee from various field of expertise
• To finalise and recommend standards through MRB to SIRIM for approval

Technical Committee

This committee comprise of chairman, secretary and committee members.

Functions:

• To review and revise existing standards
• To assist /comment on preparation of standards by other organisations and international bodies
• To prepare new draft standards for the rubber and rubber products
