Seminars
on the Disposal of Vulcanised Rubber Waste
For
the year 2007, the Support Services Division, Malaysian Rubber Board
(MRB) has organised a series of seminar on the Management of Rubber
Waste and Reject Rubber Product. This seminar is deemed important
as the MRB as well as the natural rubber industry have to uphold Malaysia's
reputation and to safeguard its image as a top quality SMR producer
in the world.
A series of three seminars were held in three
different locations. The locations were in Shah Alam, Sungai Petani
and Johor baru which were held on 9 August 2007, 23 September 2007
and 4 September 2007 respectively. It was a success based on the response
from participants which were very encouraging. The support showed
that the Malaysian natural rubber industry was well aware and concerned
on the quality of SMR being produced and exported all over the world.
A total of 307 participants attended the 3 seminars.
The seminar in Shah Alam was officiated by
the Y Bhg Datu Michael Dosim Lunjew, Chief Secretary Kementerian Perusahaan
Perladangan dan Komoditi who represented Datuk Anifah Haji Aman, Deputy
Minister KPPK, and four working papers were presented, three by MRB
and one by Department of Environment through out all three seminars.
In his opening remarks, the Chief Secretary stressed the importance of maintaining the quality of rubber produced in Malaysia to uphold the image of Malaysia as a top quality rubber producer. Based on complaints received by MRB, a few factories had been affected by SMR contamination thus incurring great losses. Some consignments which had been exported were returned due to contamination which tarnishes the image of the country as a quality natural rubber producer.
In all, the objective of the seminar was achieved,
which is to guarantee SMR quality, and ensure that factory operators
and contractors understand their roles in achieving zero SMR contamination.
The seminar also provides participants an opportunity to further enhance
relations with other industry players, meeting possible new clients
and government agencies to know their problem and assisting in what
ever ways possible like proper and cheaper ways of rubber wastes disposal.
It was hoped that the seminar will bring cooperation among the rubber industries and government agencies to create greater awareness and better management in rubber waste disposal thus maintaining SMR quality and ensures that it is always a premium rubber in the global market.
