Datuk Abdul Hamid bin Sawal retires as the Director General of the Malaysian Rubber Board on 31 December 2005. He joined the Board on 1 January 2000 from the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (then named Ministry of Primary Industries).

In appreciation of his distinguished service, the MRB Board organised a Dinner on 27 December 2005 in Kuala Lumpur. In his farewell speech, Datuk Hamid thanked the Chairman and members of the MRB Board, as well as the Management and Staff of the MRB for all the support and co-operation given to him during his 6-year tenure at MRB. As parting gifts, Datuk Hamid received a latex painting, a self portrait and a crystal vase.
