The Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) welcomes its new Director General, YBhg. Dr Salmiah Ahmad who will begin her tenure as Director General of the MRB from the 9th of February 2010. This is a historic appointment as Dr Salmiah is the first woman to hold the coveted post. With over 27 years of experience working at the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Dr Salmiah will take over from YBhg. Dato’ Dr Kamarul Baharain Basir who retired on the 6th of February 2010.
Prior to her appointment, Dr Salmiah held the post of Deputy Director General (Services), MPOB. In addition to her expertise in organic chemistry, Dr Salmiah also has vast experience in the operational and policy sector, which will prove vital to help lift MRB to greater heights. Her leadership qualities and involvement in a number of research projects and programmes which has helped the Malaysian commodities industry should prove crusial during her tenure as director General.
As a scientist, her projects have won numerous awards including: -
Dr. Salmiah holds a Bachelor and Master of Science (Organic Chemistry) from Northern Illinois University, USA. She received her PhD from Imperial College London, UK in Chemistry Physics. She also holds an Executive MBA from the Asean Institute of Management, Manila.
Born in Penanti, Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang, on 23 July 1955, Dr Salmiah received her early education at Sekolah Kebangsaan Penanti, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bukit Mertajam and Kolej Tunku Kurshiah, Seremban.
