Seminar on Tyre Regulatory Requirements, 28 July 2008
Tyres are among
the major components of vehicles that provide safety and comfort to
the users. In Malaysia, passenger car tyres are usually not retreaded,
but commercial vehicles can be retreaded up to four times depending
on their usage history and maintenance. However, the retread industry
has long suffered a problem of poor image because of lack of public
confidence in the quality and general reliability of retreads. In
fact, retreads which have been properly inspected, formulated and
passed through a system of sound quality control procedures can be
as safe as new tyres, provided that the tyres are properly maintained
and used.
The regulations on tyre in Malaysia
have been gazetted by the Road Transport Department and are currently
awaiting the approval of the Ministry of Transport. Once approved,
all tyres that fall under Malaysian Standard (MS) as stipulated in
the regulations (MS 149, MS 1394 and MS 224) will have to comply with
the required specifications.
In view of this, Malaysian Rubber Board,
as the custodian of the rubber industry in Malaysia has taken proactive
steps to assist tyre manufacturers in getting first hand information
and to comply with the regulations.
A one-day seminar on TYRE REGULATORY
REQUIREMENTS was organised by the Malaysian Rubber Board on 28 July
2008. Participants, from the local tyre manufacturing companies and
related ancillary industries, were informed on the Malaysian Standard
(MS) of tyres and the enforcement of the regulations on tyre in Malaysia.
The seminar was officiated by Y Bhg Dato' Dr Kamarul Baharain bin
Basir, Director General of the Malaysian Rubber Board. |
