  It's a GOLD for NRESTdb

NRESTdb: The Natural Rubber EST Database (http://genome.ukm.my/nrestdb/) is an online rubber gene bank containing sequence information, gene identities and functional classifications of rubber DNA sequences in the form of ESTs (Expressed Sequence Tags). ESTs are DNA sequences representing genes for proteins that are expressed in the rubber tree. The database was constructed as a user-friendly and interactive sequence bank to enable rubber biotechnologists to mine gene information pertinent to their research. In the Malaysian Rubber Board, genomics research is utilizing the NRESTdb to investigate genes for proteins involved in rubber biosynthesis and latex allergy.

NRESTdb is the result of a collaboration between the Biotechnology Unit of the Malaysian Rubber Board and the Malaysia Genome Institute since 2002. NRESTdb won a Gold Medal in the Agriculture category at the Invention and Innovation Competition 2008. In this competition, only 15% of entries won Gold Medals. The competition was organized by the Malaysia Association of Research Scientists (MARS) as part of the Malaysia Technology Expo 2008 which was held at Putra World Trade Centre from 21 - 23 February 2008.
