MRB urged to intensify R&D activities on rubber

The Malaysian rubber industry has evolved to adapt to the changing times and will continue to play an important role in the nation's development and economy. Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui, Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, said this in his speech at the opening ceremony of the international Workshop on Latex Harvesting technologies organised by the International Rubber Research & development Board on 5 May 2008. His speech was read by Senator A. Kohilan Pillay, Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities.

Datuk Peter Chin urged the Malaysian Rubber Board to continue giving priority to R & D and to intensify R & D activities on improving efficiency and productivity in the manufacture of high value-added products. The quality of human capital in the rubber industry should also be stepped up, he said. The setting up of Academy Hevea Malaysia by the Malaysian Rubber Board was lauded as it will provide relevant training to enhance the skills and efficiency of those involved in the rubber industry.
