RRIM Building declared a Heritage Building

Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia (RRIM)Nov 2009 - The building that housed the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia (RRIM) for decades has been declared a Heritage Building. The declaration, in accordance with the provision in the National Heritage Act (Act 645), was informed to the Malaysian Rubber Board by the National Heritage Department. With the declaration of the RRIM Building as a Heritage Building, another of Malaysia's built heritage is preserved and conserved to be shared by future generations.

Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia (RRIM) The RRIM was established and its Board incorporated in 1925 to take over the research and technical advisory work on rubber production for the whole of Malaya. Up to that time, this work had been done by the Department of Agriculture, Straits Settlement and the Federated of Malay States and by the research organisations of the Rubber Growers' Association and other bodies. It was in 1937 that the RRIM occupied the premises at 260 Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. Since 1998, RRIM together with the MRRDB and MRELB we consolidated as the Malaysian Rubber Board.

Plaque A plaque signifying this declaration is hung on the wall of the RRIM Building located at 260 Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. The building currently houses the Support Services Units of LGM as well as the Board's Material Characterisation Unit's Laboratories.
