Food
security has become the biggest concern, of late, as the prices of
food, especially rice, are at an all-time high in nearly all countries
globally.
In light of this situation, the nation's commodity sector needs to look into how it can contribute significantly towards ensuring food security.
Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui, Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, urged all agencies under the Ministry to work towards increasing the production of food, improving yield and introducing bio-technology to ensure food security.
Immediate steps could be taken, he said, given that most agencies under the Ministry have enough land for agriculture and livestock.
Datuk Peter Chin was speaking at the Ministry's Monthly Assembly on 26 May 2008 held at Malaysian Rubber Board's RRIM Research Station in Sungai Buloh, Selangor.
