MRB develops a rapid method for DRC determination of cuplumps

A simple, low cost and easy to operate method of determining DRC of cuplumps has been developed by MRB. Called "the rapid method", it incorporates a rubber drying technique that could be conducted rapidly based on microwave technology and more importantly, readily conducted outside the laboratory.

The development of the rapid method for DRC determination of cuplump is timely to improve and to address problems of DRC determination as currently the standard method is only suitable to be conducted in the laboratory that requires a significant equipment investment and an average period of 2 to 3 days to be completed.

The development of microwave rapid method will make raw rubber trading particularly at the farm gate level more transparent and less susceptible to DRC manipulations particularly during the current trend of high rubber prices as presently, the determination of DRC is mainly done qualitatively through visual observations by rubber dealers.

Details of the Rapid Method for Determining Dry Rubber Content of Cuplumps is described in the MRB's publication titled Buletin Sains & Teknologi LGM no.1/2007.
