56th Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Rubber Exchange (MRE) and MRE Seminar 2019

The 56th Annual General Meeting of Malaysian Rubber Exchange (MRE) was held on 25th June 2019 at the Conference Room, Malaysian Rubber Board. The meeting was chaired by Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Dr. Zairossani Mohd Nor, Director-General of Malaysian Rubber Board cum Chairman of MRE Management Committee. The 56th MRE AGM received encouraging response from MRE members. Among the agendas were adoption of Chairman report on the Perfomance of MRE in 2018, presentation of MRE achievements in 2018 and proposed MRE activities for 2019-2020 and discussions on rubber trade issues in line with the roles of MRE, which was established for the promotion, development and proper conduct of the rubber trade in Malaysia.

In conjunction with the 56th AGM, an MRE Seminar was organised for its members with presentation of three papers from guest speakers. The first session entitled "Mechanisms for Resolving Trade Disputes" was presented by Mr. Rajendra Navaratnam from Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators (MIArb). The main objective of this session is to create awareness among MRE members on the importance arbitration facility as mechanisms for resolving trade disputes. Besides that, another objective of the session was to promote sharing of expertise between the speaker and MRE Panel of Arbitrators in resolving trade disputes cases.

The second session was "Global Demand and Supply of Natural Rubber (NR): Trends & Prospects" by Mr. Jom Jacob, Senior Economist at Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC). The session aimed to update MRE members on the latest trend on global NR supply and demand landscape. The session also highlighted MRE members on the current, prospects and the impact on commodities trading.

The final session presented a paper entitled "Global Economic Outlook: Impact on Commodities" by Dr. Shankaran Nambiar, Senior Research Fellow at Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER). The objectives of his presentation was to share information on current development and global economic outlook impacting the commodities especially natural rubber.
