Fourth ANRPC Meeting of Expert Group on NR Price Stabilization 23-25 May 2017, Hat Yai, Thailand

The Government of Thailand hosted the 4th ANRPC Meeting of the Expert Group on Natural Rubber Price in Hat Yai, Thailand, from 23 to 25 May 2017. The main objective of the meeting is to review the latest developments in rubber prices and identify suitable measures for mitigating the adverse impact of low rubber prices. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Bich, Secretary-General of ANRPC presented his introductory remarks while Dr. Titus Suksaard, Governor, Rubber Authority of Thailand (RAOT) delivered the keynote address.

Dr. Suthee Intraskul, Advisor to Governor of RAOT chaired the meeting which was attended by the ANRPC member governments. The meeting began with a report by ANRPC Secretariat on the review of action taken on recommendations made by the Third Meeting of Expert Group held in August 2016 in Sri Lanka. A brief report from each member of governments on the actions taken in their respective countries with regards to the recommendations of the third meeting of the Expert Group was also presented. Other matters discussed during the meeting were trends in global supply and demand for NR up to 2024, a review of price trends and outlook for short and medium term and measures to support farmers. The meeting identified various key observations and recommendations to be placed before the Industry Matters Committee and the Executive Committee Meeting which will be held in October 2017.

Rubber Authority of Thailand also organized a field trip to visit several places such as Songkhla Central Rubber Market, GMP Rubber Bale Factory, Rubber Learning Centre and Rubber City.
