One of the initiatives of the Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) in NKEA is to establish the programme Projek Getah Untuk Pribumi (GUP). The objectives of this project is to guide, lead and monitor the participants in this programme in the activities of planting of rubber through the continuous transfer of technology and to enhance the productivity of their farms to an average of 1,500 kg/ha/year for the first five years of tapping.
The opening ceremony was officiated by YB Datuk Wira Hj Ahmad bin Hj Hamzah, the Chairman of MRB at Pos Betau, Kuala Lipis, Pahang on 17 May 2012 and approximately 300 locals participated in this programme. Among the guests include YB Dato’ Devamany A/L S. Krishnasamy, the Member of Parliament for Cameron Highland who is also the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and YBhg Datuk Dr Salmiah Ahmad, Director General of MRB. Planting materials were given to 10 participants of the GUP project in Pos Betau. After the opening ceremony, there was the planting of young rubber trees at the GUP project in Kg Cekai.
