With the title “Organic Chemistry: Changing the Fortunes of Commodities”, YBhg Datuk Dr Salmiah Ahmah, presented her inaugural lecture at the Academy Science Malaysia (ASM) on 10 March 2012. Dr Salmiah Ahmad, Director General of the Malaysian Rubber Board was recently elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia. Her lecture covered on her contribution in the area of organic chemistry and palm based oleochemicals. She introduced many excellent innovative ideas including the commercialization of the product formula and the effective implementation of the Laboratory Information Management System.
Established in 1995, the Academy of Sciences Malaysia is an independent body whose mission is to enhance excellence on the fields of science, engineering and technology for the development of the nation and the benefit of mankind.
Dr Salmiah joins previous scientists from the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia and the Malaysian Rubber Board who have been elected as Fellows such as Dato’ Dr Yeang Hoong Yeet, Datuk Dr Mohinder Singh, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Ani bin Arope, Datuk Dr Abdul Aziz S A Kadir and the late Tan Sri Dr B C Sekhar .
