GUP Programme in Kg Tohor, Negeri Sembilan

The Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) Chairman, YB Datuk Wira Hj Ahmad bin Hj Hamzah officiated the Getah Untuk Pribumi (GUP) programme on 13 July 2012 at Kg Tohor, Negeri Sembilan. The GUP programme is in line with the EPP 1 project in the NKEA to increase national productivity to 2,000 kg/ha/year by 2020. The objectives of this programme are to guide and monitor the participants in the activities of planting of rubber through the continuous transfer of technology and to enhance the productivity of their farms to an average of 1,500 kg/ha/year for the first five years of tapping. In Negeri Sembilan, this programme involves two villages (Kg Tohor and Kg Sg Sampo) with an area of 30.8 ha and 40 participants. The area has been cleared and approximately 15,400 planting materials have been distributed.

Among the guests at this programme include YB Dato’ Siow Chen Pin, the State Assemblyman of Chennah, Negeri Sembilan and YBhg Datuk Dr Salmiah Ahmad, Director General of MRB. Planting materials were given to 10 participants and after the opening ceremony; there was the planting of young rubber trees at the GUP project in Kg Tohor.
