  Gold Medals for MRB’s Inventions at ITEX 2005

MRB’s invention entitled “Production of Natural Rubber Serum Proteins as a Source of Industrial Biochemicals” by Dr Zairossani Mohd Nor and Dr Yusof Aziz won the World Intellectual Property Organisation’s (WIPO) Overall Best Invention Award at the recent ITEX 2005 held in PWTC from 19 – 21 May 2005. This invention, to turn latex waste into useful materials, also bagged two other gold awards – the KASS Award for Overall Best Invention as well as a Gold Medal under the corporate category.

Two other inventions from the MRB also won a Gold Award each. They were “Recovery of Waste latex ( Skim Latex) via Membrane Separation” by Devaraj V, Prof Nik Meriam Suleiman and Dr Yusof Aziz, and “G-Flex (Inflatable Container for Natural Uptake of Gaseous Stimulant for Increasing Tapping Yield of Latex Bearing Hevea Brasiliensis)” by Dr Mohd Akbar bin Mohd Said. The invention by Devaraj, et al, also won 'The Best Invention for Environment Award'.

Another entry of MRB entitled “Green Tyre Tread” by Dr Yusof Aziz, Siti Salina, Ahmad Nazir Kamarudin and Abdul Rahman Mohd Rais won a Bronze Medal.

Altogether ITEX 2005 showcased more than 400 inventions and products by some 500 inventors, including 120 young inventors from 16 countries.
