The Malaysian
Rubber Exchange (MRE) celebrated its 44th Anniversary Dinner on
15 September 2006 at the Hilton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The response
was overwhelming as more than 800 members and associates of the
rubber fraternity, and their guests attended the dinner. As had
been in the past, this annual event provided the social platform
for both the producers and consumers to interact with each other
and update information on the current developments in the rubber
industry.
The dinner was hosted by Y Bhg Dato' Dr Kamarul Baharain bin Basir,
Chairman of the Malaysian Rubber Exchange, who is also the Director-General
of the Malaysian Rubber Board. YB Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui, Minister
of Plantation Industries and Commodities, was the special guest
of honour. In his speech, the Minister expressed his confidence
that the export earnings from the rubber sector for 2006 would continue
to play an important role. He further emphasised the need for Malaysia
to venture and penetrate the non-traditional markets for both semi-processed
rubber and rubber products.
The Minister also gave away the prizes to the winners of the MRE
Golf Tournament which was held earlier in the day.
