MRE
celebrates 45th Anniversary
In conjunction with its 45th anniversary, the Malaysian Rubber Exchange (MRE) held its Annual Dinner on 2 November 2007 at the Hotel Equatorial, Penang. More than 800 members and associates of the rubber industry, as well as their guests, attended the dinner which was graced by the Honorable Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, YB Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui. During the dinner members of the industry interacted and renewed ties with one another.
In his speech, the Minister informed that the rubber industry was expected to contribute a significant role in the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) initiative especially on activities relating to cultivation, processing and manufacturing. Currently, 28% or 281,000 hectares of the total Peninsular rubber area is situated in the NCER region which is considered ideal for the establishment of Malaysia's "rubber industry cluster". The Minister expressed optimism that the rubber market sentiment would remain strong with the prevailing tight supplies, strong demand from major consuming countries and also the high oil prices.
The Minister also gave away the prizes to the winners of the MRE Golf Tournament which was held at the Bukit Jambul Golf and Country Club, Penang earlier in the day.
