Recently the Malaysian Rubber Board's (MRB)
"Night with the Industry" was held in Kuala Lumpur with the guest

and Commodities. Also present at the event were YB Senator Dato' Dr
Vijayaratnam, Parliament Secretary of Plantation Industries and Commodities,
Y. Bhg Datu Dr. Michael Dosim Lunjew, Secretary General Ministry of
Plantation Industries and Commodities cum Malaysian Rubber Board Chairman
and Y. Bhg Dato' Dr Kamarul Baharain Basir, Director General of Malaysian
Rubber Board.
At the event, YB Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui launched the Rubber Prices via Short Messaging Services or SMS Project and a coffee table book entitled "Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre (TARRC): A Strategic Centre of Excellence of the Malaysian Rubber Industry". Besides the launch, there was also a promotion on the A5 Programme, whereby certificates were given to companies which participated in the programme.
"For many years the daily rubber prices were available mainly through two channels i.e. the local newspapers and the radio. "Today, rubber prices can be accessed via the Short Messaging Services or SMS", said YB Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui.
The SMS service is an interactive service provided by MRB whereby the daily average noon and 5 pm rubber prices can be accessed by any party subscribing to the service. Currently 136 660 SMSes had been received since it was introduced in 2006.
"This mechanism has proven to be a more effective, efficient and extremely cost effective mode of information dissemination between business and their customers", said Dato' Dr. Kamarul Baharain Basir, Director General of Malaysian Rubber Board.
The Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre (TARRC) is another research centre of MRB in United Kingdom. TARRC's scientists work together with the MRB's Rubber Technology Centre research officers at Sungai Buloh to develop cutting edge technologies to be transferred to the Malaysian manufacturing industries.
In recognition of the excellent work carried out by TARRC since its inception in 1938, a coffee table book "Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre (TARRC): A Strategic Centre of Excellence of the Malaysian Rubber Industry" highlighting the achievements and good work of TARRC has just been published by MRB.
MRB has introduced the A5 Programme to help improve the productivity, efficiency and quality of rubber product manufacturing in Malaysia. Begun in Jun 2004, the A5 Programme involves experts from MRB and Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre (TARRC) in London working together with Malaysian industries to improve their operations. The success of the A5 Programme can be seen through the productivity and efficiency improvements by 100%, waste reduction up to 20% and operation cost reduction up to 50% experienced by those participating in the program.
