  IPiCEX 2006

Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) participated in the International Plantation Industry Conference and Exhibition 2006 or IPiCEX 2006 which was held at Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur on the 26 - 29 November 2006. Themed "Global Governance of the Agricultural Commodity Sector: Issues of developing Nations". IPiCEX 2006 was officiated by Y Bhg Dato' Seri Prof Dr Ibrahim Abu Shah, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Institut Teknologi MARA (UiTM).

MRB took part in both the conference and exhibition. This gave MRB the opportunity to promote and publicise her activities and services for the Malaysian Rubber Industry.

Two MRB senior officers presented a paper each at the four-day conference. They were were Dr Hj Suarni Sumormo, who presented the paper entitled "The Impact of Asean Free Trade Agreement (AFTA) on the Malaysian Rubber Industry" and En Hairul Erwan Juwaini, who presented "Social-Cultural Challenges in Sustaining Tapping Technology Adoption by the Rubber Smallholding Sector".

Meanwhile, Dr Mohd Akbar Md Said, Deputy Director General (Research & Innovation) of Malaysian Rubber Board chaired the fourth session of the conference on "Human Capital and Education in Plantation Industry".

IPiCEX 2006 was jointly organised with the International Institute of Plantation Management (IIPM), the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Golden Hope Plantations Bhd, Incorporated Society of Planters and the Federation of Land Development Authority (Felda).
