  6th ASEAN Rubber Based Product Working Group Meeting
     (ACCSQ-RBPWG) 4-5 August 2007, Manila


The Sixth Meeting of the ASEAN Consultative Committee for Standards and Quality (ACCSQ), Rubber-based Product Working Group (RBPWG) was held from 4-5 August 2007 in Manila, Philippines. It was chaired by Dr Alias Othman, Director of Technology and Engineering Division of Malaysia Rubber Board on behalf of Malaysian government and co-chair by Madame Varaporn Kajornchaiyakul of Thailand.

The meeting was attended by delegates from Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and representative from the ASEAN Secretariat.

Malaysia delegation comprises a party of four (4) officers headed by Dr Fauzi Md Som of the Malaysian Rubber Board.

The objective of the Meetings is to approach the targets set by ASEAN Country Leaders through several Roadmaps towards ASEAN as a single market that work towards the harmonisation of on 11 priority sectors whereby rubber is one of those sectors.

The meeting discussed the issue pertaining to harmonisation of standards and regulation in ASEAN countries.

Malaysia presented the progress of the compilation of the directory of accredited rubber testing laboratories in ASEAN. The directory had already been endorsed by the ACCSQ for publishing it in the ASEAN website, which will be updated regularly in every six months.

The Meeting agreed to re-nominate the current Chair (Dr Alias Othman) from Malaysia and Co-chair (Ms Varaporn Kajornchaiyakul) from Thailand for the next coming three-year term (2007-2010).

All delegates also visited an automotive rubber parts factory in Manila on 3rd of August as part of their regular technical visit before the meeting.
