Highlights of the 3rd ASEAN Rubber Business Council Meeting

The Vietnam Rubber Association (VRA) hosted the 3rd ASEAN Rubber Business Council meeting which was held on 10 December 2005 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in conjunction with the VRA annual dinner. Members of the Council, comprising of the Rubber Association of Indonesia (GAPKINDO), the Thai Rubber Association (TRA), the Rubber Trade Association of Singapore (RTAS), Vietnam Rubber Association (VRA) and the Malaysian Rubber Exchange/Federation of Rubber Trade Associations of Malaysia (MRE/FRTAM) attended the meeting.

Issues discussed at the ARBC meeting included the outcome of the road shows conducted by the Rubber Eco-Project Task Force, wood packaging, default contracts, revised draft IRA International Contracts for TSR 20 and Latex in Drum and trade matters pertaining to the interest of the ARBC members. The ARBC also had a successful trade dialogue with its counterpart China under its "ARBC plus" concept. The interest shown by member countries coupled with their active participation in these meetings has not only augured well for the regional NR trade and processing sectors but also underlined the important role played by the ARBC in fostering closer ties among its members.

Prior to the ARBC Assembly, the members of the Executive Committee and the Economics and Statistics Committee of the ARBC met earlier on 8 December 2005 at the same venue.
