Malaysian
Rubber Board (MRB) extends a warm welcome to Prof Dr Djoko Said Damardjati
of Indonesia who has been appointed as the Secretary-General of the
Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) for a three-year
term beginning 1 July 2008.
The ANRPC, founded in 1970, is an inter-government
organisation formed to promote the overall interest of the natural
rubber community. Its membership currently comprises China, India,
Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Singapore, Papua New Guinea

Prof Dr Djoko Said Damardjati brings with
him a wealth of academic brilliance and leadership skills. Prior to
this appointment he served at the Ministry of Agriculture Indonesia
as Director-General of Processing & Marketing of Agricultural Products.
Apart from that, he has also served as Professor (Research) and Senior
Principal Scientist on Food Science & Technology at the Indonesian
Agency for Agricultural Research and Development.
Dr Djoko provided leadership to several government
organisations in the Indonesian agricultural sector. These included
Chairman of Indonesian Rubber Commission, Chairman of the Working
Group for Negotiations on International Trade in Agriculture, Chairman
of Agricultural Sub-Committee on International Cooperation, Chairman
of Agriculture Team for Negotiations on WTO and RTAs, Chairman of
Indonesian Palm Oil Commission, Chairman of Indonesian Cocoa Commission
and Indonesian Cocoa Board, Director of Centre for R&D for Food Crops,
Director of Centre for R&D for Horticulture, Director of Research
Institute for Food Crop Biotechnology, Director of Bogor Research
Institute for Food Crops and Secretary-General of Agency for Agricultural
Research and Development.
After completing his masters programme at
the Bogor Agricultural University, Dr Djoko was awarded a research
fellowship at the University of Philippines. He obtained his PhD from
the Bogor Agricultural University and carried out post-doctoral research
at the University of California. He has to his credit more than 50
research publications and two books. |
