    Abstract

Proteins Bound to Rubber Particles and Sensitivity to the Tapping Panel Dryness in Hevea Brasiliensis

The rubber tree, Hevea brasiliensis, is an Euphorbiaceous species from the Amazonian basin cultivated for latex production. The physiological syndrome, tapping panel dryness, which stops latex flow, affects natural rubber production. Sensitivity of Hevea brasiliensis to this syndrome depends on the clone. To understand the molecular level of this sensitivity difference, the polypeptides of rubber particles were analysed in different clones using two-dimensional electrophoresis. The present study highlighted a relation between the clonal sensitivity and the variation of the accumulation of six acidic polypeptides. These polypeptides correspond probably to isoelectric variants of two, 14.5 kDa and 26.0 kDa major proteins. Five among these polypeptides (P2, P4, P5, P8 and P9) were expressed abundantly in the most sensitive clones while the latter (P3) presented a very weak expression among these clones. These polypeptides that fluctuate according to the sensitivity of the clones can be used as markers for tapping panel dryness sensitivity and serve as tools for precocious selection of tolerant clones.
