Director General's Message

Welcome to the Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) homepage.

The MRB is the largest single-commodity research organisation in the world. The Board conducts R & D in all aspects of natural rubber (NR) production, processing and product development. During the last 77 years the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia's R & D activities have had a tremendous impact on the Malaysian and foreign business sectors. Examples of these are the production of high quality clones which have benefitted NR producers throughout the world and the Standard Malaysian Rubber (SMR) which is internationally recognised as a high quality raw material.

As for the downstream activities, the Board is the world leader in research in the manufacture of rubber-based products. Currently the MRB is promoting the use of natural rubber in a wide range of industrial application such as bridge bearing for bridges and flyovers and seismic bearings for use in building in earthquake prone areas. Recent advances in biotechnology have paved the way for a wide range of rubber-based materials which have great potential in the pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and medical industries.

As the custodian of the NR, the aim of the MRB is to enhance Malaysia's reputation as the leader for natural rubber and also to make the country as the world's centre of excellence where natural rubber is concerned.
