Dato' Dr Kamarul obtained his Diploma in Engineering from UiTM in
1974. He then went for further studies at the University of Strathclyde,
UK in 1979 where he obtained a BSc (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering.
Subsequently, he completed his PhD at the Institute of Polymer Technology,
Loughborough University of Technology, UK in 1985.
Dr Kamarul started his career with the then Rubber Research Institute
of Malaysia, now the Malaysian Rubber Board, in 1976 as a Research
Officer. In 1995, he was promoted to Senior Research Officer and
later in 1997, he became the Head of the Engineering Products and
Design Unit. Subsequently, he was promoted to Deputy Director General
(Research & Development) in June 2005 and to the present post
from 1 January 2006.
Dr Kamarul’s experience in R & D is
substantial especially in the various applications of natural rubber
and synthetic rubber in the field of engineering. They include such
areas as rubber to metal bonding, development of rubber parts for
the local automotive industries, anti-vibration isolators including
earthquake bearings and the wide applications of NR in oil and gas
industries.
With his expertise and long experience in rubber applications in
engineering Dr Kamarul has been involved as a consultant with various
national as well as multinational firms.
Over the years, Dr Kamarul has more than 60 papers to his credit,
mostly on the use of NR in engineering, rubber blends and rubber
to metal bonding. In 2003, Dr Kamarul received a bronze medal in
the International Innovation, Industrial Design & Technology
Exhibition for his submission on the use of NR for super heavy and
large deflection engineering applications. In addition, he has also
twice won the service excellence award given by Rubber Research
Institute of Malaysia, now the Malaysian Rubber Board (RRIM/MRB)
in 1994 and in 2003 respectively. |
